Heirlooms Continued: Enchants

Now that we’ve covered Heirlooms and how to get them, it’s time to talk about enchants. Heirlooms fill one of the following slots: Trinket, Ring, One-handed Weapon, Two-handed Weapon, Shoulders, or Chest. Trinkets cannot be enchanted, so we can exclude them. But what about the others? Well, there are a few rules for enchanting heirlooms. First, enchants all have some sort of level requirement to them. You can toss Berserking on your Respurposed Lava Dredger, but if your alt is under lv 60 it won’t ever proc +400 attack power. This leaves you with two avenues of attack: you can either constantly change the enchants on your heirlooms as the characters level, or you can find the best enchant that works right from level one and just use that. That’s what this guide is for, to help you pick out your enchants.

Weapons

First, let’s talk about weapons. If you have a staff or one of the caster or healer one-handed items, the enchant you want is Enchant Weapon – Spellpower. 30 Spell Power is the best you can find for caster heirlooms, but unfortunately it can be difficult to find on some servers. The pattern drops from Molten Core with a very low drop rate from most bosses, and Molten Core isn’t the most popular of instances. If you can’t find someone with that, a backup that is nearly as good is Enchant Weapon – Healing Power. Contrary to the name, it provides 29 spell power — the name is just a holdover from back when healing and spell power were separate. If you can’t find either of these you could look into Enchant Weapon – Mighty Intellect (+22 Intellect) as a third. It’s possible when Cataclysm hits and Intellect provides mana and spell power this may be much better. Until then, though, go with 30 spell power if you can find it!

For the agility-based dps classes, thankfully towards the end of Vanilla (Classic) World of Warcraft the Timbermaw Furbolg reputation added some nice agility enchants that work from lv 1 onwards. The first is Enchant Weapon – Agility which tosses 15 agility on a one-handed weapon. You’re going to be hard-pressed to beat that. If you’re a feral druid or hunter, you can also put Enchant 2H Weapon – Agility to get 25 agility on a two-hander. Mmm, tasty. Now, because Enchant Weapon – Mongoose is so popular I thought I’d point out that it only requires lv 35. So you could use it on a lv 35 character if you wanted it from 35 to 80.

For strength-based dps classes, you can toss Enchant Weapon – Strength on a weapon for a static 15 Strength. You can also use Enchant Weapon – Crusader for a big strength boost and a small heal (not so small at lv 1), but note that it becomes less effective when you’re above lv 60, and 1-60 is going to be the fastest part of leveling an alt. Because there is no two-handed version of the strength enchant you may want to look at your class and see if +25 agility to a 2H is better than using +15 agility or crusader.

Chestpieces

There is one chest enchant that’s king, and that’s Enchant Chest – Greater Stats with +4 to all stats. Nice! It’s also an extremely rare enchant and you may have trouble finding it on some servers. Failing that, there’s always the next rank down, Enchant Chest – Stats with +3 Stats. Two other flavors you may be interested in are Enchant Chest – Major Mana and Enchant Chest – Major Health for 100 health or mana. Those are your options, not many, but you should be able to find something you like!

Shoulders

There are no shoulder enchants that work from level 1 onwards, so we’re going to look at the lower tiers of shoulder enchants. First, let me say that the king of low-levelled shoulder enchants were the Lv 60 Sapphiron Shoulder Enchants, and those don’t exist anymore. If by chance you have some in your bank, congratulations on being awesome! You have my envy. The lowest shoulder enchant available are the Argent Dawn shoulder enchants, the best of which is the Chromatic Mantle of the Dawn which provides +5 to all resists. Pretty lackluster, isn’t it? Thankfully Zul’gurub’s Zandalar shoulder enchants step in at 55, providing you with three options. For the physical dps classes, the Zandalar Signet of Might adds +30 attack power to a shoulder slot. Nice! Both the Zandalar Signet of Serenity and Mojo provide +18 Spell Power to a shoulder slot — again, a relic of when healing and spell power were separate entities. My advice to you is to pick up these shoulder enchants and keep them all the way to 80. In order to pick these up you don’t need to know an enchanter, but you need a character that is exalted with the Zandalar Tribe. Killing creeps in Zul’gurub, turning in coins, and destroying Bijous all grant you Zandalar reputation. Coins and Bijous grant you tokens which can be used for more reputation, but keep in mind that each shoulder enchant you want requires 15 tokens! For those who are curious, the next highest are the aldor and scryer shoulder enchants, but those are actually inferior to the Zul’Gurub ones. They require lv 64 and provide slightly less statistics. Inscription of Discipline is +15 spell power to a shoulder slot for a 9 level higher requirement, ouch! The Aldor and Scryer exalted enchants are better, but they require lv 70. Finally, the Sons of Hodir enchants require lv 80. Zandalar definitely have the strongest showing.

Rings

The ring is the hardest heirloom slot to fill, but I thought it deserved mention regardless. If you do not have enchanting on your alts, you can just leave this slot unenchanted. If you do have an enchanting, you have nothing from 1-34, but at 35 the Burning Crusade enchants would kick in. Enchant Ring – Spellpower and Enchant Ring – Healing Power both provide +12 spell power to your rings. Enchant Ring – Striking provides +2 physical damage, and Enchant Ring – Stats provides +4 to all statistics. Since you aren’t likely to have more than one ring, I would probably toss +4 statistics on it and use it for all of your alts.

Ranged Weapons

As with the shoulder enchants, there aren’t any great low-levelled options. The +damage scopes start at level 5 with the Crude Scope and go all the way up. It’s really up to you what you want to go with, though the Biznick’s 247×128 Accurascope is my personal favorite because no other scope provides a ton of hit rating. Here’s the list, just pick your favorite.

Enchanting Set Breakdowns

Here’s a few examples of set of enchants you may want to use on your alts, in a concise and easy-to-reference list.

Feral Druid

Hunter

Rogue

Enhancement Shaman

Warrior

Death Knight, Paladin

Priest, Mage, Warlock

Elemental/Restoration Shaman

Balance/Restoration Druid

Holy Paladin

  1. Well, these tips are great, but i’ve been using the “enchant weapon: crusader” for a while for my warrior, and it seems pretty useful. You should point on that too. :) Cause the str boost on 60+ (till 70) makes a good profit.

  2. Crusader is a nice enchant, but the fact that after a certain point the proc rate goes down to 0% means it’s only good early on. Then again, it’s pretty godly. I’ll take some time and find out the range it functions and maybe add an alternative list. It might be good to list some others that only work for a limited range, too, like Deathfrost. Awesome glow, fun proc, but it functions for only a few levels. How sad!

  4. Yeah, I need to update the article. The item level comes into play sometimes but not always, which is odd. Shoulders, rings, and weapons you can enchant as you please. Breastplates and one/two-handed weapons throw a fit. Back when I wrote this I was working off the assumption that since all the other slots had this work fine that it would work fine everywhere. I can definitely attest to the fact that this isn’t the case, though.
